Sick and Frustrated!

So, I seem to have come down with something that has really just knocked me out. I haven't felt right for about 2 wks, and remember telling Bryce last week that I was a bit "fatigued" and couldn't figure out why. I had been sleeping more than usual and taking less call. Well, this monday, I got a horrible gastroenteritis. I had to break scrub from surgery, and say "I'm sorry sir, but I have to step away." This was followed for the next 8hrs with uncontrollable nausea, vomitting, and other GI issues I shudder to mention here. They pounded me with IV fluid, anti-emetics, and over the next 24 hrs, I improved. Only to develop cough and cold symptoms that have just overwhelmed my system. Fevers, more snot than I knew anyone could have, low energy and a nasty cough have just beaten me up. My mom, the pediatrician, tells me this is fairly common for a viral gastro, but it still feels like a double whammy! Go on viruses, kick me while I'm down!

I realized with this bout of the plague that I really have no reserve. With my limited sleep, and even with my excellent nutrition, when something hits me, it hits me hard. Really hard. I am really run down from 6 months straight of in house call and very, very busy services.

The worst part is, I really wanted to turn things up a notch while I wasn't taking as much call. I start trauma at the end of the month and my time and sleep schedule will be much tighter.

I suppose there's only so much I can control. And I just gotta go with this one. Setbacks happen, right? And, well, I'll have to find a way on trauma to turn it up as best I can. And know that in 2 months, I'll have a lot more time to train, live, sleep, etc. ..But for now, I'm just hoping I'll wake up tomorrow morning all better....
